To: The CHINESE GOVERMENT

Through Mr. Obama (US President) and
Mr. Barroso (President of the European Commission),

We are all world citizens and were shocked to see how the Dogs are treated and killed in China, as you can see directly from the snapshots above and in this video below.

We do not need words, because we don’t have any word, to comment on the brutality and ferocity of what we saw, and we don’t have the courage and strength to review the video twice.

The DOG is always considered, by all civilizations, man’s best friend and it never hesitated to sacrifice its life for men.

For this and other many reasons, we want all together to make our voices heard because this senseless cruelty is stopped, the dogs’ dignity, as well as that of every living creature is respected, and it will be sent an official note by the European Commission and US Government to the Chinese Government because this brutal and uncivilized practice will be stopped immediately.

GDP of the Philippines Grows 7.1% in the Third Quarter

Beating expectations of both local and international economists, the Philippine economy had grown 7.1% in the third quarter of this year according to the report of National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB). The stunning growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country places the Philippines on top of ASEAN countries, and second to China in Asia (China GDP growth is 7.7%). Here’s the comparative list:

Philippines – 7.1%
Indonesia – 6.2 %
Vietnam – 6.11%
Malaysia – 5.2

“The beyond expectation third quarter growth was driven by the Services sector with the robust performances of Transport, Storage  & Communication, Financial Intermediation, and Real Estate, Renting & Business Activities supported by the five consecutive quarters of sustained accelerated growth of the Industry and the seemingly weather tolerant Agriculture sector. “,  NSCB reports.

Good Governance is Good Economics

Meanwhile, Secretary of Finance, Cesar Purisima commented that the 7.1% GDP growth shows that the economics of good governance or Aquinomics works. With the government clear focus to regain people’s confidence by trying to eliminate corruption, the investors and consumers alike responds positively.

Not Yet All Gears are Working

Secretary Purisima further said that the Philippines still have extra gears to further boost its economy. Citing why this impressive growth is significant, he stated three major reasons:
1. It is much higher than the 10-year trend of 4.7%
2. The growth happened while the world’s economic environment  is difficult. The advanced economies of the West are in crises.
3. It happened even though the mining industry (on of Philippines major industries) declined 2.2%.
He further added, “the peace agreement once completed and fully implemented represents another extra gear that will unlock the significant potential of Mindanao.”

Investment Grade

With this latest figure, the Philippines had grown 6.5% in the first three quarters, well above its full-year growth target of 5-6% GDP growth.
The Philippines’ sovereign credit rating is currently positioned one notch below investment grade in the three major credit agencies, Moody’s, Fitch and S&P. However, it is yet to be seen if this latest figure will finally bolster the country to the coveted investment grade.

PNoy to promote Ph as tourist / business hub

Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary for Asia and the Pacific Cristina Ortega, said the President is expected to promote the Philippines as a business destination, as the government aims to raise up to $60 billion in investments from China until 2016. The government is also eyeing at least two million tourists from China by 2016. Ortega said $1.5 billion to $2 billion in investments had already been firmed up under the five-year trade and economic development plan between the Philippines and China until 2016.

“That would be included in the five-year plan. Just like we are hoping that there will be ($60 billion in investments) by 2016. So that is the target. We always have targets and we won’t have this target if it would not be possible. We will work hard but I think it could be done,” Ortega said.

She said 200 to 250 business people from the Philippines would be joining the President to explore opportunities in Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen. “We have a luncheon with the Chinese economic policy makers, policy banks and regulators with the President. Following that, we will have one-on-one meetings with individual Chinese businessmen. These businessmen are those that are really interested in doing business in the Philippines and hopefully most of them would be engaged in the PPP (Public Private Partnership) projects that we are offering,” Ortega said.

She said the President would likewise meet with the Filipino communities in China but would not likely make a pitch for Filipinos in detention, although an agreement on the transfer of sentenced persons was being worked out as well as stronger cooperation against human trafficking and drug smuggling. The President said he would also bring up the shelved NorthRail project with Beijing. “We’re hoping that we will move forward on the NorthRail and other issues,” Aquino told reporters in an ambush interview after welcoming the BRP Gregorio del Pilar at Pier 15, South Harbor in Manila on Tuesday.

The 80-kilometer railroad, a flagship program of the Arroyo administration, will link the northern flank of Metro Manila with the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport at the Clark free port in Pampanga. From an original budget of $421 million, the NorthRail project cost has now gone up to $621 million. The DOTC earlier suspended the contract for the NorthRail project with Sinomach (formerly China National Machinery and Equipment Corp.) due to its slow progress and cost overruns.
